Danganronpa V3: Killing Harmony is the first Danganronpa game that was built from the ground up to support PlayStation 4, unlike it’s previous iterations that were ported to the console from Vita. If you missed our previous review of Danganronpa 1 & 2, you can check them out here.
Welcome to a new world of Danganronpa, and prepare yourself for the biggest, most exhilarating episode yet. Set in a “psycho-cool” environment, a new cast of 16 characters find themselves kidnapped and imprisoned in a school. Inside, some will kill, some will die, and some will be punished. Reimagine what you thought high-stakes, fast-paced investigation was as you investigate twisted murder cases and condemn your new friends to death.
While the world and game of Danganronpa V3 feels somewhat new, it still follows the same formula as past Danganronpa games which is not necessarily a bad thing. It’s similar to the older games, as the cast is just as fun and diverse. The plot is absurd as ever, I mean talking bears and giant mechs just to give you an idea.
In Danganronpa V3, you play as Kaede Akamatsu, the Ultimate Pianist. There are fifteen other students that you will meet throughout the school, each being an Ultimate in something. Each character feels different whether it’s the vulgar Miu Iruma or the Ultimate Artist, Angie Yonaga, there is a character for everyone. Just don’t get too attached to any character, as you never know when they might die.
Similar to past Danganronpa games, Danganronpa V3 is set in an unfamiliar school where a killing game is about to unfold. Monokuma, an adorable but deadly teddy bear mascot, leads his Monokubs, robotic bears with crazy personalities in this horrific game. The killing game forces the students to kill one another and then attempt to trick the others in a trial. If the killer tricks the other students, they get to go free while everyone else is massacred.
Danganronpa V3 is broken up into several different parts, living and interacting with the other students in a visual novel style, investigating a murder when it happens and then completing the trial.
Danganronpa V3: Killing Harmony will be loved by past Danganronpa fans and new ones as well as there is a lot here for everyone. If you have never played a Danganronpa game before then I highly suggest you check it out!
