DUMPSTER FIRE GAMES

Welcome to our new featured series, where we collect Click-Bait fake game articles and discuss them.  If you ever see the initials DFG on one of our articles, don’t get your hopes up because it’s fake news that we are discussing.  I wanted to put this out there for everyone to see and I will preface it with each article in this series so you know before hand.

Fallout New Vegas 2 Details Leaked

    According to FragHero

FragHero has supposedly fresh intel on a Fallout New Vegas 2 leak. Before they discuss the leak, they wanted to mention some other leaks that their site supposedly leaked first as to back up their reliability of this Fallout leak.  I will break it down for you:

FragHero said: “We’ve had a spectacular track record with this source in the past. As you may recall we were the first to accurately leak Red Dead Redemption 2 details. Other Websites like Forbes even tried to make fun of us for it. They weren’t laughing very long.”

FragHero has edited this article to make them look better, as an article over at Forbes as well as Kotaku can confirm.  The original RDR2 article also listed that the following items was supposed to happen as well:

“It would be subtitled “Legends of the West”
It would be announced at E3
It would be announced alongside an HD remaster of RDR “

The actual leak they referenced, was an anonymous email they received that they could not confirm; however, they did begin to reference actual details that had already leaked in the past that basically backed up what they were talking about such as when Danny, an ex-employee of Rockstar Games, was asked about what Rockstar was working on next, he replied “Really? Dumbass. Really? Two.” so one could imply it being Red Dead Redemption 2.  They were not the first news site to report on Red Dead Redemption 2 as it was an open industry secret by the time they wrote it.  It was not subtitled “Legends of the West”.  It was not announced at E3.  There was no HD remaster of RDR.

BUT WAIT, IT GETS BETTER.  A different article at FragHero suggests:

    rdr2renegade

Not even FragHero can decide on what they want it to be called…….

Ok, so now that we some-what debunked that leak, the next leak is what is huge that they are referencing:

FragHero said: Our source also accurately called The Last Of Us 2 reveal weeks before it dropped.

This is where it gets very important, this is the same source that they are stating has leaked Fallout New Vegas 2 details specifically to them. Wait for it…..wait for it…..guess who there leaker is?  Well known Shinobio602 from NeoGaf.

Now we have Shinobi602 who is very well known in the video-game industry, who leaks all of his stuff on NeoGaf & Twitter……now secretly leaking to FragHero about Fallout New Vegas 2.  If you follow Shinobi602 on Twitter or NeoGaf, you would know he has not mentioned anything at all about Fallout New Vegas 2 as he is currently on the Mass Effect Andromeda & Horizon Zero Dawn hype train.  This totally blows FragHeros next statement out of the water.  Also, Shinobi602 had to say this about FragHero on Twitter:

    shinobitweet

FragHero said: Rumors of Fallout: New Orleans set the internet abuzz last year, but our source tells us, it will actually be New Vegas 2.

This source, who we all know to be Shinobi602 now, has never mentioned once about Fallout New Vegas 2.  Also, the rumor of Fallout: New Orleans by a European trademark filing .  Bethesda did not choose to respond to the rumor, but Obsidian responded when asked about it on their twitter, with the following response of magic 8-ball (a reference from Fallout 2):

    obsidiantweet

What’s more, an image of a pile of Louisiana field guides tweeted out in December by New Vegas project director Josh Sawyer – which would initially appear to support the NOLA rumors – were shot down by Sawyer himself, who followed up with the tweet: “That’s not fallout-related btw.”  Now, we have almost completely ruled out the fact that Fallout: New Orleans will be happening, we can move onto the next statement of this supposed leak.

FragHero said: There have been hints sporadically through the last few years like this Obsidian Wants To Make ‘Fallout: New Vegas 2’ – Gamerant and when the lead writer for Obsidian ups the hype with tweets like this:

    eric-tweet

The very first thing I want to address, is the lead writers tweet above from over a year ago.  This same lead writer just 14 hours ago tweeted out the following:

    eric-tweet2

Here we have the same lead writer that FragHero is linking to, specifically saying that the New Vegas sequel is a hoax.  Next, is Gamerants article that is over four years old and was published before Bethesda ever mentioned Fallout 4.  In Gamerants article that FragHero references, you see the CEO of Obsidian Feargus Urquhart stating how:

Oh, we’d love to do Fallout: New Vegas 2. It would be awesome. If I think of going from Fallout 1 to Fallout 2, we tried to associate the two areas somewhat closely. It wasn’t just ‘Oh, we’re gonna do this 2,000 miles from here.’ So I think if we were to do Fallout: New Vegas 2 — or just a new Fallout — we would probably separate it from what the internal team at Bethesda’s doing. We’d keep it on the West Coast, because we’re West Coast people. They’re East Coast, so it makes sense.  And we need an interesting confined area. So I mean, it could be LA. Fallout LA. That could be interesting. It’d probably be The Boneyard, which is from Fallout 1. It could be very different. It could be almost a Walking Dead meets Fallout-like thing because of all the radiation.

That statement was from four years ago, FOUR.  Meanwhile other Obsidian members have spoken just recently on how that New Vegas 2 is a hoax and even Obsidian is very doubtful about it (relating to the tweets above).

FragHero: also showed this screenshot of this tweet (they have since removed from the article) stating that it was a tease for New Vegas 2:

    poe2-tweet

The tweet says, “I used to dream that when my god came back, he would forgive us.  That’s the trouble with dreams.  Sooner or later, we all have to wake up.”

The problem with this tweet?  It was revealed before FragHero even wrote their article, that it is a teaser for Pillars Of Eternity II that was announced just recently on January 26th.  Now we have FragHero trying to back up their claim with a teaser that was shown for another game.

    FragHero said:

    According to our source:

    – Upcoming reveal is planned, possibly for E3.
    – Obsidian is involved.

I think have safely proved already above that this is wrong.

    FragHero said:

“Our source promises us he will have actual tangible evidence in the next couple of days.”

It’s been a few days, where is this tangible evidence at?  Nowhere.

Also, I have included a quote from an email from Obsidian PR Manager Mikey Dowling to Jason Schreier:

“We’ve said plenty of times that we’d love to work on a Fallout again if Bethesda wanted us to, we just aren’t at this time. Right now we’re very focused on the Fig campaign to make our first ever sequel in Pillars of Eternity II: Deadfire. Whenever a new Fallout comes around though, whoever is doing it, we all look forward to playing it!”

We would love to be wrong about this and wish Fallout New Vegas 2 was happening, but every piece of evidence FragHero tried to provide has been debunked.  Also, FragHero goes back and edits their articles to make them look right and removes the wrong pieces of information.

I have chosen to include this quote from Forbes about FragHero regarding some interaction with them:

‘I tried to ask FragHero about their past and present claims, they responded with a series of troll-ish joke answers that they required I post “in full” which had nothing to do with the questions and did not answer them, so I’m not doing that. Previously, they also offered to publish my “rant” post on their own site, which I also declined. The one actual answer I got was when I asked if they could tell me anything about their source, or if it was even real, to which they said, “We’re just a team of nerds who spend our lives scouring the internet for the most entertaining gaming content.”’

Also, chose to include this quote from Kotaku:

“You’re probably wondering: Why care so much about this Fraghero website? They’re not a major professional gaming outlet with millions of readers like IGN or Kotaku. Why even bother paying attention to this site?

Well, Fraghero has more than 300,000 followers on Facebook. Somehow, despite the fact that this website appears to consistently publish misinformation, they’ve cultivated enough of an audience to be able to drive buzz all across the internet with false stories about games like Fallout: New Vegas 2.

Maybe that’s how it got to the front page of r/games and turned into a serious irritant for the poor folks at Obsidian. Despite the fact that most people have never heard of Fraghero, this website is reaching—and misinforming—lots of people.”

Here is what we know Obsidian is currently working on, Pillars Of Eternity II which was announced on January 26th, 2017.  They are still currently working on updates for their game Tyranny as of  January 23rd, 2017 as well as Pathfinder Adventures as of January 16th, 2017.  Also, here is a list of games that Obsidian has developed or is developing:

    obsidian-games

Bethesda Softworks owns the rights to the Fallout Franchise.  Bethesda in the future may allow Obsidian or another developer to create another Fallout game while they develop Elder Scrolls VI similar to how they did with Elder Scrolls V and Fallout New Vegas.

Bethesda Game Studios just wrapped up on Fallout 4, as well as the expansions and are still continuing to release updates as they are releasing a PS4 Pro patch next week as well as a High-Resolution patch for PC.  They are also currently working on VR support for it according to Todd Howard.  Also, before you go assuming that Elder Scrolls VI is next for the studio, Pete Hines the VP of PR/Marketing at Bethesda had this to say: “The studio has two other major projects they want to work on before they get to TES6.”.

So what does this mean?  There are two unknown projects before Elder Scrolls VI, could this project be another Fallout or an entirely new IP, it all seems to be a mystery; however, from their track record we would assume it’s not another Fallout game as they like to allow their developers a little creative freedom so they don’t have to develop the same IP back-to-back.

Please feel free to leave a comment on what you would love to see from the next Fallout, or provide tangible evidence on how I’m wrong.  I would love to hear from you!

As I move forward with this series, I’m trying to debunk click-bait gaming rumors so people aren’t misled and become actually more informed of what’s going on in the industry.  If you have an click-bait gaming rumor that you would like to report to me, tweet me either @StormZtrooper or @GameTreeHouse.  Or you know, if you find actual tangible evidence to why I am wrong then tweet it to us.
