According to the Wall Street Journal, the Nintendo NX dev kits have been sent out and the console has “industry-leading chips” to make sure it can keep up with Playstation 4 and Xbox One. This will hopefully let 3rd parties have an easier time making games for them. The NX also contains a “mobile unit that could either be used in conjunction with the console or taken on the road for separate use”.  Wall Street Journal also says the NX will have a 2016 launch window.
My take away on this is pretty positive. In a previous podcast we’ve done we discussed what we dreamed NX would be. Walt wanted the home console/mobile device crossover, I on the other hand didn’t really care either way. The industry leading chips does sound like a good move. Nintendo needs to have graphics on par with Sony and Microsoft. My worry about the mobile part is that it will lower the graphical power of the machine. Hopefully these chips also include at least 500GB of internal storage. I’m still interested in the controllers design and what the online interface is like. NX needs to have a controller that feels like PS4 or Xbox One. Also the online needs to have party chat and other features. Overall the NX sounds awesome. Let’s hope these reports are true!
